Smart Kids becomes a Sun Safe setting!

Smart Kids Childcare has been officially accredited as a Sun Safe setting, by the Sun Safe Schools Accreditation Scheme.

In this capacity, Smart Kids will raise awareness with children, parents and staff about how to stay safe during periods of sunny weather using appropriate clothing, and suitable shade.

Smart Kids completed a portfolio of evidence to be accredited. Children and staff will now be required to wear a Legionnaire-style hat to protect them from the sun. Hats can be purchased individually or alternatively directly from the nursery.

In addition, all sun cream provided for children must be a minimum 4 Star rating, and also a minimum SPF30.

Smart Kids’ Deputy Manager, Kayleigh Woodall, said: “We’re very proud to be accredited as a Sun Safe setting. The Pre-School children have really embraced the Sun Safe ethos. They have been reading about George, the Sun Safe superstar, and have then been designing their own Sun Safe superhero.”

The Sun Safe Schools Accreditation Scheme has been developed by national skin cancer charity Skcin. The key objective of the charity is to prevent skin cancer through education, promote early detection and reduce the soaring incidence rates in the UK.
